Saint Patrick’s Day 2024 in Madrid

As every year, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on 17 March, a feast in honour of the patron saint of the Emerald Isle (Ireland). This year in Madrid, Ireland Week returns from the 11th to the 17th of this month full of celebrations and activities for tourists and locals alike.

Among these activities to do in Madrid, we highlight the following ones:

Irish Dance

Very close to our accommodations in the centre of Madrid, we will be able to enjoy traditional Irish dance, by the group of dancers and musicians of the University College Dance Society, on line 5 of the Metro. They will perform in the centric stations such as Ópera, Callao and Gran vía from 18:00 to 20:00.

Celtic Rhythms and Concerts

On Friday 15th March a show will be held at the Teatro Monumental in which folk rock is fused with the sound of the bagpipes. Groups such as The GreenTones and Luna Celta Dance will perform at the theatre. The following night Bras Rodrigo will perform in the Fitz Hall and other guest artists such as the winners of the St. Patrick’s 2024 Battle of the Bands. On the last night Irish Treble will perform in the Sala Galielo Galilei their show Celtic Journey combining traditional Irish music and dance.

Cinema and literature

Those strolling through the Retiro Park will be able to enjoy Irish films at the Casa de Vacas, such as “Notes from Sheepland” and “Armada 1588”. In addition, one day (14 March) will be dedicated to Irish literature, with Shane Tivenan giving a reading at the Desperate Literature bookshop (Calle Campomanes, 13).

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Also very close to our accommodation in the centre of Madrid, on Saturday 16th March at 16:30, will take place the Great St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Gran Via. There will be more than 600 pipers from all over Spain. This Parade is promoted by Bras Rodrigo and the Fundación de Gaitas de Corvera.
